Blumenthal Blunder Destroys Business, Costs Ct $18 Million
A court has ruled that Richard Blumenthal's accusation that a company had sold faulty computers to the Department of Information Technology was unfair and drove the company out of business. The court ordered Ct to pay $18 million in damages. Last year 13,414 Ct businesses filed paperwork to dissolve. Blumenthal killed this Ct computer company and put all its employees out of work. This is part of a pattern of behavior by Democrats in Ct that has helped make our state the least business friendly in the country. Blumenthal, who has a reputation for avoiding hard decisions, boldly declared that the issue should be left up to the courts. Bysiewicz has decided to ignore reality and continue pursuing the Attorney General position. Brown Leads Attack on Democratic Aldermen Mayor Richetelli Defends Blake Michael Brown, Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee's Fourth District, spearheaded an attack on plans to reorganize the city's land-use agencies that were unanimously approved last year by the Democratic Board of Aldermen. Mayor Richetelli rushed to defend Ben Blake, the former chairman of the Board who lost his position when his party was defeated last year at the polls. The Mayor assured the people of Milford that the plan, which he and Blake had worked on and which had overwhelming bi-partisan support, would continue to be implemented. Obama Proposes $1.6 Trillion Deficit for 2011 Groundhog Terrified by Fiscal Insanity
As the nation's budget situation continues to deteriorate, President Obama has made it clear that he wants to continue to govern as a tax and spend liberal. He is talking about fiscal discipline at the same time he proposes pushing spending well above the levels he inherited from previous administrations. For every dollar spent in his proposed budget, 42 cents will be borrowed. He is planning to pass onto our kids a country that is basically insolvent. In a related story, groundhog Punxsatawney Phil, national weather expert and global warming skeptic, was so frightened by Obama's proposals that he failed to notice if there was a shadow. Americans Want a Smaller Government In a Washington Post/ABC poll completed January 15, 2010, 58% of the people polled said they wanted a smaller government with fewer services. Only 38% opted for a larger government. The incumbent Democrats are clearly out of touch with average Americans. Democrat Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz, who has announced that she is running for attorney general, may not be qualified for the position. State statutes require the attorney general to have practiced law in the state for at least 10 years. She only practiced for 6 years before becoming Secretary of State. She has claimed that in that position she was in fact practicing law even though you don't have to be an attorney to hold the office. In 2006 she signed a form certifying that she was not engaged in the practice of law in order to save $55 on a state judicial department fee. This undercuts her own argument that she was practicing law. Mass. Senate Race Winners & Losers Bad News for Blumenthal In analyzing the effect of Republican Scott Brown's win in the Massachusetts, Politico.com, a well regarded political web site, sited Richard Blumenthal as a loser as a result of the race. Politico said: "As another Northeastern state attorney general with a big lead in the polls and an interest in replacing a longtime senator, Richard Blumenthal may want to call a campaign meeting Wednesday. Blumenthal, who became the Democratic Senate candidate in Connecticut when Sen. Chris Dodd abruptly announced his retirement, enjoys large polling advantages that would look insurmountable in a different environment. With a big lead in the polls over Republican former Rep. Rob Simmons and World Wrestling Entertainment executive Linda McMahon, Coakley's 30 percentage point lead in December would probably be good campaign office wallpaper to serve as a motivational reminder." Historic Win for GOP in Mass. Senate Race Devastating Blow to Democrats
Republican Scott Brown defeated his Democratic opponent by 5 points to win the senate race in the most Democratic state in the country. The race was a referendum on Democratic policies and voters clearly indicated that they are dissatisfied with the direction the Democrats are taking the country. Brown ran against the grotesque healthcare bill that Democrats are trying to ram through Congress as well as the over spending and ballooning deficits. He also called for money to be spent on defending America rather than funding for lawyers to defend terrorists. Obama Poll Numbers Continue to Drop A Quinnipiac taken January 5-11 shows Obama's approval rating dropping to 45%. When respondents were asked if Obama shares their views on issues they care about, 50% said no and only 46% said yes. Obama does even worse when people are asked about specific issues.
Blumenthal Likely to Take Huge Lead in Polls Republican Internal Memo Charts Path to Victory
Given Attorney General Blumenthal's high approval ratings, he is likely to have a large lead in early polls compared to all potential GOP candidates for Senator Dodd's seat. Thanks to his relentless self-promotion he has very high name recognition. As Attorney General he hasn't been forced to confront potentially unpopular decisions. Blumenthal has never faced a serious opponent and appears to be a relatively poor campaigner. So far he has tried to avoid taking any positions on national issues but as he is forced to support and defend unpopular Democratic policies, his numbers will begin to fall. An internal memo prepared for Republican Rob Simmons' campaign outlines a path to a Republican victory. To see the memo, click here . Blumenthal Off to Shaky Start Democratic insiders, who have been concerned that Richard Blumenthal may turn out to be a poor campaigner, apparently have reason to worry. In his initial TV interviews after announcing that he was running for the Dodd's Senate, he came across as weak and uninformed when he either could not or would not answer questions on critical national issues like bank bailouts, healthcare and taxes.
Captain Obvious Learns the Limits of Cool
"He had applied the freshness of his independent thought to the critical matters at hand. He had convened his seminar, reviewed the reviews, analyzed the intelligence every which way, thought anew about everything, and lo and behold, he finally emerged to tell us some stuff we already knew. A standing room only crowd attended the Caucus called to endorse candidates for the 2010-2012 Milford Republican Town Committee. The evening had the same sense of energy and excitement that was a hallmark of last year's election. While the event was not a fundraiser, the Town Committee received donations of almost $4,000, a great financial kickoff for 2010. Pelosi Attacks "Obama Promises" Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi questioned President Obama's commitment to campaign promises. When asked about opening up negotiations on healthcare to C-SPAN cameras and being reminded that Obama said during the campaign that they should be open, Pelosi said "There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail". Aides later said she was referring to Obama breaking his pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class by supporting taxes on benefits plans which would impact many middle income Americans. Register Gives Dems Thumbs Down It’s Just the Beginning
I want to thank the hundreds of people who worked so hard to make our election victory a reality. Your enthusiasm and commitment was incredible. Milford is a terrific city in large part because of Mayor Richetelli’s management and leadership and his call for everyone, regardless of party affiliation, to come together as friends and neighbors to make our city even better is a vision that can unite our city and one that resonates with voters. People are tired of mean-spirited attack politics. This election wasn’t the end; it was another step in recreating the Republican Party in Milford and changing the political scene. While Milford is in great shape, Connecticut is losing population and jobs and has a nationwide reputation for over-taxation and over-regulation. It’s time to send a message to Hartford. We still need your enthusiasm and commitment. It’s just the beginning.
